(Patrick) Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904): essayist, journalist, and teacher. Son of an Irish father and Greek mother, Hearn settled in Japan in 1890 after living in America for several years where he was known for his writings about the New Orleans. In Japan he taught English and wrote extensively about the country, its myths, and its history.
