Noisy Place

Real calmness is in a noisy place. Where there is no danger to be disturbed—you are already [laughs, laughter] disturbed enough [laughs], so there is no danger for you, no mental danger [laughs] for you to be disturbed by something else. So, what you should do is just to obtain calmness within yourself. You can ignore the danger of being disturbed by someone else. So, there you have restfulness, and absolute reliance on yourself only. You can depend on your own effort.            --------------------------- Excerpt from Shunryu Suzuki  lecture 66-03-26-C - as found on shunryusuzuki.comfrom one of the newly discovered (2021) lecture tapes. Edited by DC  - Going through Suzuki lectures and posting anything that can stand on its own.
