The Lotus Sutra puts the emphasis on the understanding which you will have after attaining the experience of emptiness. This is something like Zen. Zen extended this kind of idea by practice and brought this philosophical teaching into our actual experience. We learn how to bring this philosophical teaching to our life by practicing Zen.
