“You should not waste your time.” I thought it meant to work hard all day long
and all night through [laughs, laughter]. We do not work nighttime, but we
have to behave all night through. That was, I thought, what he meant. But it
was not so. Sometime he said, “To understand Buddhism is not to waste
your time. If you do not understand Buddhism you are wasting time [laughs,
laughter]”. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Excerpt from Shunryu Suzuki lecture 66-08-19-D as found on shunryusuzuki.com.
