Not Compatible

Individualism or capitalism seeks for freedom for our desire. Communism rather put emphasis on equality of the profits or rights. But equality and freedom are not compatible. If you want to be free from everything, if you want to extend your desire freely, limitlessly, you cannot divide things equally, because you want to extend your desire as much as you can. If each one extends their desire, it is not possible to possess things equally.         --------------------------- Excerpt from Shunryu Suzuki  lecture 69-04-08-bn - as found on shunryusuzuki.com. Edited by DC  - Going through Suzuki lectures and posting anything that can stand on its own. Not looking for zingers or "the best of." I find that following these excerpts daily provides another way to experience Suzuki's teaching.
